Dear Writers, we are open to submissions from September through May. If you are still waiting to hear from us about a previous submission, please forgive the delay. We will get back to you as soon as we can.

Please be on the lookout in the meantime for our new issue: "The Lives of the Saints." Also, feel free to sign up for our newsletter publication, "Read More" and receive free stories and poems from The Literary Review (yes, that's it, just something to read, nothing more) twice a month in your email. Sign up at www.theliteraryreview.org. It's always helpful to know a little bit about what we publish if you're planning on submitting.

Each quarter, The Literary Review publishes a new theme issue. Forthcoming themes include: Encyclopedia Britannica (Winter 2012); Loss Control (Fall 2013), Invisible Cities and Scenester.

The themes are suggestive rather than prescriptive, and meant to be explored and developed by contributing writers in expansive, interesting ways. When you submit, please feel free to suggest an issue, but also know that we read simultaneously for all forthcoming issues and that if we like your work we'll find a theme, or invent a theme in order to publish it. We have lots of different ways of interpreting everything we mean!

We are especially interested in introducing writers from many nations to our readers. We invite you to read TLR before submitting to get a robust sense of our taste. Really, no more than one story should be submitted at a time; though we encourage poems to be sent in small groups of three to seven (depending on length).

Poets, please note, we would like your poems to be collected into a single document, so that you are not making multiple submissions. If one of the poems is accepted elsewhere, you must withdraw your entire submission and resubmit the available poems. Do feel free at that time to let us know that you are resubmitting—so that we can refer to our notes.

Authors of accepted work receive two copies of the issue their contribution appears in and a one-year subscription and our undying support and gratitude.
